PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Oxon Hill; Investigators Seeking Witnesses

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Oxon Hill. The victim is 24-year-old Samira Jenkins of Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill. We are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to please call investigators.
On March 22, 2018, at approximately 5:45 am, patrol officers responded to the intersection of Indian Head Highway at Kerby Hill Road for a collision involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian, Jenkins, died of her injuries on the scene. The driver of the involved car remained on the scene.

The preliminary investigation reveals Jenkins was struck while crossing Indian Head Highway. Preliminarily, it appears she was in the crosswalk at the time of the collision. Investigators are working to determine if she had the right of way.

Detectives Investigate Homicide in Adelphi

Homicide Unit detectives are actively working to arrest the suspect who fatally shot a man in Adelphi. The victim is 37-year-old Ruben Garcia-Ramos of Laguna Road in Adelphi. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.

On March 22nd, at approximately 5:45 pm, patrol officers responded to the 1900 block of Laguna Road for the report of a shooting. When they arrived on scene, officers found the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He died of his injuries several hours later.

Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and establish a motive.

PGPD Searches for Missing Teen

Davison Feresu


The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s help in searching for a missing teen. He is identified as 16-year-old Davison Feresu.

Feresu was last seen in the 7500 block of Belgravia Lane in Landover on March 23rd atapproximately 7:30 am.

Feresu is described as a black male, 5’4”, and 160 pounds.  He was last seen wearing a white polo shirt and khaki pants.

Beauty Store Robbery


Robbery Unit detectives are now working to arrest this man who robbed a beauty supply store in Seat Pleasant. On March 22nd, at about 2:25 pm, he walked into the business in the 5900 block of Martin Luther King Junior Highway. He approached an employee and demanded money. Once he had cash, he fled the store. If you recognize him, please call 301-772-4905 or 1-866-411-TIPS. A cash reward is available to the tipster.

Theft from Auto Investigation


We are also working to find this suspect in connection with a theft from a car in Clinton. This theft took place on Allentown Way on March 17th.  The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect stole an item from a car at a gas station while the victim was pumping gas. This suspect may be linked to more than one case.

Supermarket Theft Suspect


Please take a look at these photos and call us if you recognize this man. He’s wanted in connection with a theft at a supermarket in the 5000 block of Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro on March 24th.  Please call 301-868-8773 with any information on this suspect.

Drugstore Theft


These three suspects are wanted for a theft at a drugstore in Clinton this week. On March 25th, they walked into the business on Branch Avenue at about 11:35 pm. Detectives Investigate Homicide in Largo

Homicide Unit detectives are actively working to arrest the suspect(s) who fatally shot a man in Largo. The victim is 39-year-old Omar Wright of Harry S. Truman Drive in Largo. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.

On March 28, 2018, at approximately11:05 pm, patrol officers responded to the 600 block of Harry S. Truman Drive for the report of a shooting. When they arrived on the scene, officers found the victim in a parking garage suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and establish a motive.

PGPD Arrests Two Suspects In Connection With Non-Fatal Shooting at Restaurant

Prince George’s County Police detectives arrested and charged two suspects in connection with a non-fatal double shooting early this morning. The suspects are 21-year-old Montana Artis of the 3900 block of Prickly Street in Waldorf and 19-year-old Tony Irene Marie Smith of the 3200 block of Jackies Lane in Alexandria.

On March 29th, at approximately 12:40 am, patrol officers were called to a restaurant in the 100 block of Fleet Street in Oxon Hill. Once on scene, they learned one employee was suffering from a gunshot wound and another employee was suffering from a graze wound. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening. One of the victims is out of the hospital.

The preliminary investigation reveals Artis and Smith were customers at the restaurant. It’s believed they got into a dispute with employees over their bill. The two victims, who were security guards for the restaurant, escorted the suspects out of the business. At that point, Artis pulled out a gun and fired, wounding one employee. The second employee was grazed by a bullet. He and Smith then fled the area. Detectives were able to quickly identify them and arrest them at a nearby hotel. A gun was recovered in their room.

Artis is charged with two counts of attempted murder, assault and additional charges. Smith is charged with disorderly conduct and conspiracy after the fact. They are in custody of the Department of Corrections.

Detectives Investigate Homicide in Langley Park

Homicide Unit detectives are actively investigating a fatal stabbing in Langley Park. The victim is 29-year-old Enrique Jacinto Miguel of the 1400 block of 14th Avenue in Langley Park. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.

On March 31stshortly before 3:00 pm, patrol officers responded to the 1400 block of University Boulevard for a welfare check. When they arrived on the scene, officers found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and establish a motive.

Detectives Arrest Suspect in Fatal Shooting in Oxon Hill

The Homicide Unit arrested a suspect in connection with a homicide in Oxon Hill on Sunday. The suspect is 21-year-old Rickey Penn of the 2300 block of Avalon Court in Waldorf. He’s charged with fatally shooting 26-year-old Stephon Mathis of Linwood Drive in Oxon Hill.

On April 1st, at approximately 6:00 pm, patrol officers responded to the 600 block of Maury Avenue in Oxon Hill. When they arrived, officers discovered Mathis outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he died several hours later.

Penn was taken into custody by responding officers not far from the shooting scene. The motive remains under investigation. Penn is charged with second degree murder and multiple handgun charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

Detectives Investigate Homicide in Laurel

Homicide Unit detectives are actively working to arrest the suspect(s) who fatally shot a man in Laurel. The victim is 29-year-old Joseph Healy ofAvebury Drive in Laurel. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.

On April 2, 2018, at approximately 2:15 pm, patrol officers responded to a shopping center in the 13000 block of Laurel Bowie Road for the report of a shooting. Healy was discovered in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. He died later at a hospital. The preliminary investigation reveals the victim was shot on nearby Avebury Drive. He was then driven to the shopping center to get help.

Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) in this case.

Two Suspects in Custody for Homicide in Adelphi

Homicide Unit detectives identified and charged two suspects for a fatal shooting in Adelphi last month. The suspects are 19-year-old Freddy Mendez-Cruz of the 7600 block of 15th Avenue in Takoma Park and 16-year-old Christian Alvarado of the 2300 block of 4th Street in Northeast DC. They’re charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Ruben Garcia-Ramos of Adelphi. Alvarado is charged as an adult.

On March 22nd, at approximately 5:45 pm, patrol officers responded to the 1900 block of Laguna Road for the report of a shooting. When they arrived on scene, officers found the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He died of his injuries several hours later.

The preliminary investigation reveals the fatal shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Mendez-Cruz and the victim. Mendez-Cruz and the victim were acquaintances.

Alvarado and Mendez-Cruz are charged with first and second degree murder. They have confessed to their involvement. They are both in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

Robbery Suspect
Robbery Unit detectives are asking for the community’s help in identifying this armed robbery suspect. This suspect stole cash from a drugstore in the 5000 block of Silver Hill Road in District Heights on March 31st

Following the robbery, the suspect was seen getting into this car driven by a second suspect. The car is a white four-door sedan.  Detectives can be reached at 301-772-4905 or 1-866-411-TIPS. There is a reward being offered. 
  
 Convenience Store Theft Investigation  

These suspects are wanted for several thefts at a convenience store in Capitol Heights. The thefts occurred at the store on Silver Hill Road between March 27-31st. The investigation reveals the suspects stole merchandise and then walked out of the store. If you recognize either of these suspects or have information that could help detectives, please call 301-390-2160 or 1-866-411-TIPS. We are offering a cash reward.


Carjacking Suspects
 
Detectives are also working to identify and then arrest these two suspects linked to a carjacking in Oxon Hill.  The victim was targeted on March 31st at approximately 2:30 pm in the 700 block of Audrey Lane. PGPD Searches for Missing Woman

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in searching for a missing person. She is identified as 80-year-old Mary Avent Smith.

Smith was last seen in 1100 block of Oakdale Drive in Chillum on April 3rd at 1:00 pm.

Smith is described as an African American female, 5’2”, and 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing a beige jacket, pink sweater, blue jeans with black and green shoes.

Smith was seen driving a 1993 light blue Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight with Maryland license plates of 20774HT or FBZ602

PGPD Captain Charged with Felony Forgery Charges

This afternoon, Maryland State Police served 52-year-old Prince George's County Police Captain Thomas Hart with a criminal summons.  Hart, a 22-year veteran of the department assigned to the Bureau of Patrol, is charged with two counts of felony forgery and one count of misdemeanor theft.  Hart is accused of forging a signature on a withdrawal check from a joint financial account that he shares with his ex-wife.

Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski said, "I am deeply troubled by these serious allegations.  If proven true, they serve to undermine the trust of our community despite the fact that they do not reflect the standards of the institution.  I will act according to the outcome of the investigation to preserve the public trust."

Hart was served by Maryland State Police this afternoon and is now suspended without pay.   

In addition, Captain Hart has also been under investigation by our Internal Affairs Division since January 2nd, 2018, on several unrelated matters.   On April 5th, a separate internal investigation into this incident was launched. We cannot offer further comment because those investigations are ongoing.

Off-Duty Prince George's County Corporal Discharges Weapon During Dog Attack

A Prince George's County Police corporal shot and wounded a loose dog after the animal tried to attack the officer and his small dog in Fort Washington.   On Thursday, April 5th, around 8:20 am, the corporal was walking his dog, a cocker spaniel, on a leash in the the 11400 block of Gunpowder Drive, when a neighbor opened his garage door.  Our preliminary investigation reveals when the detective crossed the street, he says he heard the neighbor's dog, a cane corso, barking and charging towards him.  The cane corso did not have on a collar and was not on leash.  The officer says he picked up his dog and started to fend off the dog as it tried to bite at his face and tried to grab his dog.  Fearing for his own safety and for the safety of his dog, the officer drew his weapon and discharged one round at the cane corso grazing the dog's back paw.  The dog received medical attention.  Our officer nor his dog were injured.   Our Special Investigative Response Team will handle the investigation into the discharge of the officer's weapon which is standard operating procedure whenever an officer discharges his or her weapon.  Prince George’s County Animal Control has been notified and will launch a separate investigation into the incident.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Collision in Clinton

Investigators with the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit want to speak with anyone who witnessed or has information regarding a fatal motorcycle collision in Clinton on Friday. The victim is 27-year-old Jamal Shaw of Erie Street in Southeast DC.

On April 6th, at approximately 3:25 pm, patrol officers were called to the 9100 block of Piscataway Road for the report of a collision. 

The preliminary investigation reveals Shaw was on a motorcycle traveling westbound on Piscataway Road. A vehicle, also going westbound, changed lanes in front of Shaw forcing him to take evasive action resulting in his motorcycle sliding on its side. A car heading eastbound then struck Shaw. Shaw was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the striking car was not hurt and remained on the scene. Investigators are actively working to identify the driver who changed lanes in front of the victim. That driver did not remain on scene.

On April 10, 2018, at approximately 12:30 am, patrol officers responded to the 1500 block of Ray Road for the report of a shooting. Officers found the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Prince George’s County Police Officer Suspended

Prince George’s Police Officer Charles Williams has been suspended with pay.    

Williams returned to Maryland Monday night after being charged with 1 misdemeanor count of resisting arrest without violence in Miami Beach Sunday night.   

Williams has been with the department for nearly three years and is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol.

Any questions regarding the incident should be directed to the Miami Beach Police Department.

Our Internal Affairs Division has already launched an investigation into the matter.

Theft Investigation

Detectives would like to identify this suspect in connection with a theft in Brandywine. The preliminary investigation reveals the victim’s purse was stolen from her car on March 15th in the 15000 block of Crain Highway. The victim’s stolen debit card was then used at a business in Clinton. The suspect was seen driving a red Chevy Impala. Anyone who recognizes this suspect is asked to please call 301-749-5064.


Breaking and Entering Investigation
Detectives are working to identity this suspect who broke into a car maintenance business in Capitol Heights. The shop is on Hampton Park Boulevard. The suspect broke in on April 1st at approximately 9:00 pm. He took cash from a register before fleeing. Please call 301-390-2179 or 1-866-411-TIPS with any information. A cash reward is available. 


Robbery Investigation
Robbery Unit detectives are working to find the suspect who robbed a business in District Heights. The business that’s in the 5500 block of Silver Hill Road was targeted on April 7th. The investigation reveals the suspect demanded merchandise from the store. The employee complied. Fast Food Restaurant Robbery
This suspect pulled out a gun and demanded cash at a fast food restaurant in Brentwood. This robbery took place on April 9th at the restaurant in the 3900 block of Bladensburg Road. Detectives Arrest Suspect Linked to 8 Porch Package Thefts

Detectives released video of a man who is linked to at least eight thefts of packages from homes in the county. He’s 20-year-old Armon Holmes of the 2600 block of Luana Drive in District Heights.

On the video, Holmes is seen approaching two homes in the Capitol Heights area, grabbing packages and then fleeing in a white car. The preliminary investigation reveals Holmes stole multiple packages from December of 2017 through this March. Following an extensive investigation, he was taken into custody in late March.

Holmes in currently charged with theft and theft scheme. Additional charges against him are pending.
Here are some suggestions to help stop these types of package thieves:

*If possible, pick up the ordered item at the store

*Ship the item to your workplace

*Have a neighbor keep an eye out for the item if you know you won’t be home during the delivery window

*Have the item sent to a friend or family member who is home during normal delivery hours

*If possible, ship the item to an Amazon Locker, UPS Office, FedEx Office or Post Office

*Require a signature at the time of delivery

Detectives to Canvass Chillum Neighborhood in Homicide Investigation

This evening, detectives with our Homicide Unit will canvass a Chillum neighborhood to gather additional information in a fatal shooting Tuesday morning. The victim is 51-year-old Brenda Swann of Rhode Island Avenue in Brentwood. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.


On April 10th, at about 12:30 am, officers responded to the 1500 block of Ray Road for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene.                          

Detectives are working to identify a suspect(s) and motive in this case. The canvass will begin at 7:00 pm in the 1500 block of Ray Road.
