Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Capitol Heights Under Investigation

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Capitol Heights on Thursday. The victim is 58-year-old Richard Edward Smith Jr. of Capitol Heights.

 

On March 11, 2021,at approximately 2:10 pm, patrol officers were called to the intersection of East Capitol Street and Davey Street for a collision involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian, Smith Jr., was pronounced dead on the scene. The involved driver was not hurt.

 

The preliminary investigation revealed the involved car was traveling westbound on East Capitol Street approaching Davey Street when a second vehicle pulled out from Davey Street onto westbound East Capitol Street. The driver of the striking car swerved to avoid that second vehicle, jumped the curbed median and struck the victim who was standing on the median. The involved driver remained on the scene.

Charles Lawson

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in finding a missing man. He is identified as 70-year-old Charles Lawson. He was last seen in the 5400 block of 16th Avenue in Langley Park at approximately 8:00 am on March 13, 2021.

Mr. Lawson is a black male, 5’8” tall and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green jacket, orange polo shirt, blue jeans and blue slippers.

Detectives Release Surveillance Video of Two Suspects Who Fatally Shot Man in Landover

Homicide Unit detectives are asking the community to review surveillance video that shows the two men wanted for fatally shooting a man one week ago at a Landover business. The victim is 39-year-old Jerome Dozier of Laurel. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered in this case.

On March 9, 2021, at approximately 3:15 pm, officers responded to a store in the 7300 block of Landover Road. Officers located the victim at the entrance suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The surveillance video shows the two suspects inside of the business just minutes before they shot and killed Dozier.Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime. The motive remains under investigation.

Detectives Divulgan Video de Dos Sospechosos Que Asesinaron a Individuo en Landover

Detectives de nuestra Unidad de Homicidios piden a la comunidad que revise el video adjunto en el cual aparecen dos individuos a quienes buscan por haber matado a tiros a un individuo hace una semana en un negocio en Landover. La víctima fue identificada como Jerome Dozier, de 39 años de edad y vecino de Laurel. Se está ofreciendo una recompensa de hasta $25,000 por información conducente a un arresto y acusación en este caso.

El 9 de marzo de 2021, a eso de las 3:15 pm, nuestros oficiales acudieron a un negocio en la cuadra 7300 de Landover Road tras recibir información sobre un tiroteo.  Armed Robbery Suspect


Up first this Wanted Wednesday – an armed robbery in Langley Park. We are asking for assistance in identifying this robbery suspect who targeted a bakery in the 1400 block of University Boulevard on March 5, 2021. Burglary Suspect


Does he look familiar? Our detectives are working to identify the pictured suspect wanted in connection with a burglary from a cell phone store. The crime occurred in the 7900 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Langley Park on March 9, 2021. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect broke in and stole several cell phones. Burglary Suspect

A burglary investigation in Capitol Heights is the next case. Detectives are working to arrest this suspect who broke into a beauty supply store. This took place on March 7, 2021, in the 8600 block of Ritchie Drive. Detectives Arrest Suspect in Capitol Heights Homicide

Jason Fogle

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit arrested and charged a suspect for a murder in Capitol Heights in January. The suspect is 36-year-old Jason Fogle of the 2100 block of Brooks Drive in District Heights. He’s charged with the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Curtis Lee Edwards Jr. of Suitland. He’s also charged with the attempted murder of a second, surviving victim.

On January 16, 2021, at approximately 12:40 pm, patrol officers responded to the 5200 block of Marlboro Pike for a shooting. Officers located Edwards inside of a car suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. A second victim was also shot. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. The suspect was also shot during the incident. He has since been released from the hospital and is now in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

The preliminary investigation revealed Fogle and the victims were known to each other. The shooting stemmed from an argument. Fogle is charged with first and second degree murder, attempted first and second degree murder and additional charges.

Detectives Arrest Two Suspects for Fatal Shooting in Oxon Hill

The Homicide Unit arrested and charged two suspects for a murder in Oxon Hill earlier this month. The suspects are 18-year-old Ramal Cheatham of the 1100 block of Kennebec Street in Oxon Hill and 19-year-old Lawrence Anthony Ford Jr. of the 1400 block of Iverson Street in Oxon Hill. They are charged with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Kevontae Clyburn of Oxon Hill.
 

On March 6, 2021, at approximately 7:50 pm, patrol officers responded to the 4900 block of Glassmanor Drive for a shooting. The victim was located outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

 

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspects shot the victim during a robbery. The suspects and victim were known to each other. Cheatham and Ford are charged with first and second degree murder, robbery and related charges. They are in the custody of the Department of Corrections. A commissioner ordered them held on a no-bond status.

Detectives Charge Suspect in Temple Hills Fatal Shooting

Tevin Ream

The Homicide Unit charged a suspect for Thursday’s murder in Temple Hills. The suspect is 29-year-old Tevin Ream of the 1300 block of Southview Drive in Oxon Hill. He’s charged with the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Dorian Hurd 2ndof Laurel

On March 18, 2021, at approximately 5:50 pm, patrol officers responded to the 4300 block of Saint Barnabas Road for a shooting. Officers located Hurd outside suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The preliminary investigation revealed Ream shot the victim in a shopping center parking lot. Responding patrol officers located the suspect nearby and arrested him. The motive for the fatal shooting is under investigation. Ream is charged with first and second degree murder and additional charges. He’s in the custody of the Department of Corrections. A commissioner ordered him held on a no-bond status.

Fatal Stabbing in City of Hyattsville Under Investigation

The Prince George's County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances of a fatal stabbing that occurred Saturday evening in the City of Hyattsville. The victim is 32-year-old Dernaldo Mcgee of Hyattsville.


On March 20, 2021, at approximately 5:35 pm, patrol officers responded to the 5400 block of Ager Road for a stabbing. Officers located the victim outside suffering from multiple stab wounds. He died a short time later at a hospital.


Investigators are working to identify a suspect(s) and determine a motive.

Suspect Who Shot at Officers in Temple Hills Now in Custody

Roy Alonzo Fowler

The Prince George’s County Police Department identified and arrested the man who recently shot at officers in Temple Hills. He is 29-year-old Roy Alonzo Fowler of no fixed address.




On March 10, 2021, at approximately 10:10 pm, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a driver in the 3400 block of Branch Avenue. The driver refused to stop. At the intersection of Branch Avenue and Colebrooke Drive, the suspect made a U-turn on Branch Avenue. While doing so, he fired at the officers behind him, striking the front windshield of the first patrol car. A second cruiser was also struck. No officers were injured. One officer then returned fire. The suspect was not struck. The suspect then sped down Branch Avenue into Washington, DC.


On March 16, 2021, detectives observed the suspect’s car and conducted a traffic stop. Fowler was driving the vehicle and was taken into custody. Fowler is charged with three counts of attempted first degree murder, three counts of attempted second degree murder and additional charges. A commissioner ordered him held on a no-bond status. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Bajo Custodia Sospechoso Quien Disparó a Oficiales en Temple Hills

El Departamento de la Policía del Condado de Prince George’s identificó y arrestó al individuo que recientemente abrió fuego contra varios oficiales en el área de Temple Hills. Este fue identificado como Roy Alonzo Fowler, de 29 años de edad y sin domicilio fijo.

PGPD Homicide Unit Investigating Fatal Shooting in Lewisdale

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday night in Lewisdale. The victim is 35-year-old Henry Javier Cruz of Gaithersburg. A second man was also shot. He remains hospitalized with critical injuries.

 

On March 23, 2021, at approximately 8:10 pm, officers responded to the 7400 block of West Park Drive for a reported shooting. The officers located both victims in the roadway. Cruz was pronounced dead on the scene. The second victim was transported to a hospital.

Convenience Store Theft 


These two suspects are wanted in connection with a theft which occurred on February 10, 2021, at a market in the 15600 block of Livingston Road in Fort Washington. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspects entered the business and stole multiple lottery tickets. Theft Investigation



Our detectives are also actively searching for this suspect who is wanted in connection with a theft. The theft occurred on February 27, 2021, at a business in the 10500 block of Campus Way S. in Largo. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect stole clothing items and fled in the pictured car displaying a Maryland license plate of 5DW1817. Drugstore Theft 



This suspect targeted a drugstore in the 20th block of Watkins Park Drive in Upper Marlboro on March 16, 2021. Detectives are asking for the community’s assistance in finding the suspects who shot at a driver filling up his car at a gas station before stealing his car.


The victim stopped at a gas station in the 5400 block of Annapolis Road in Bladensburg on March 17, 2021, at approximately 1:30 am. On the video, the suspects’ car is seen at a nearby gas pump. When the victim is about to get back into his car after filling up, a suspect jumps out of the front passenger seat and demands the victim’s car at gunpoint. 




The suspect and victim get into a brief struggle during which the suspect shoots at the victim. The rounds went through the victim’s clothing and did not cause any injuries. The suspect then sped off in the victim’s car - a 2019 white Kia Forte. The suspects were driving a dark gray, four-door Nissan Altima.

VIDEO: Tiroteo y Carjacking a Mano Armada en Gasolinera

Nuestros detectives solicitan la ayuda de la comunidad para dar con los sospechosos que le dispararon a un conductor que llenaba su tanque de gasolina en una gasolinera antes de robarle el auto.

La víctima se detuvo en una gasolinera en la cuadra 5400 de Annapolis Road en Bladensburg el 17 de marzo de 2021, a eso de las 1:30 am. En el video, puede verse el video en una bomba cercana. Cuando la víctima está por montarse en su auto tras llenar el tanque, un sospechoso se baja del asiento de pasajero del vehículo adyacente y despoja a la víctima de su auto a punta de pistola.

La víctima y el sospechoso tienen un breve forcejeo durante el cual el sospechoso le dispara. Las balas atravesaron la ropa de la víctima pero no le produjeron heridas. El sospechoso luego se dio a la fuga con el auto de la víctima – un Kia Forte color blanco del 2019. Los sospechosos conducían un Nissan Altima de cuatro puertas, color oscuro.

County Executive Names Next Interim Police Chief

 Deputy Chief Malik Aziz


Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced today that Deputy Chief Malik Aziz from Dallas, Texas has been selected as the next Interim Chief of Police for Prince George’s County Police Department.  

 

Aziz began his distinguished career with the Dallas Police Department as a patrol officer in 1992. Most recently, he has served in the role of Deputy Chief since 2012.

 

“I am honored to have been selected to lead the Prince George’s County Police Department, and I want to thank County Executive Alsobrooks for this opportunity to serve the Prince George’s County community,” said Deputy Chief Aziz. “Community policing and reducing crime are one and the same, because policing is a public service. I promise to be a Chief that will be approachable, highly visible and willing to listen to the officers of this Department and the community, producing the kind of police service that this community expects and deserves.”

 

Interim Chief Hector Velez has been leading the department in Prince George’s County since July of 2020. 

“It’s been a pleasure continuing to serve the community I love in this capacity,” said Interim Chief Velez. “Malik Aziz will have my full support as he transitions into the department.”

 

The hiring of the next police chief is the culmination of an exhaustive nine-month nationwide search that included the input of civic and community leaders as well as the residents of Prince George’s County. 

 

Velez will continue to serve as Interim Chief until Aziz assumes his new role on May 9th.

Fatal Shooting in Langley Park Under Investigation

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday night in Langley Park. The victim is 26-year-old Wuilian Montepeque Mejia. His last known address is in Los Angeles. A second man was also shot. He remains hospitalized with critical injuries.

On March 27, 2021, at approximately 10:10 pm, officers responded to the 1100 block of Merrimac Drive for a reported shooting. The officers located Montepeque Mejia inside of a car suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The second victim was located outside and was transported to a hospital for treatment.


Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify the suspect(s) in this case.

PGPD Investigating Homicide in the City of Glenarden

The Prince George’s County Police Department's Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday evening in the city of Glenarden. The victim is 31-year-old Anthony Lamont Frost of Washington, DC. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.

On March 29, 2021, at approximately 9:10 pm, officers from the Glenarden Police Department along with Prince George’s County Police officers responded to the 7900 block of Glenarden Parkway for the report of a shooting. Once on scene, they located the victim outside of a home suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.


Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify the suspect(s) in this case.

On March 29, 2021, at approximately 7:30 pm, officers responded to the 2300 block of Whitehall Street. The victim was located inside of a car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives Arrest Two Suspects in Fatal Shooting in Suitland

Homicide Unit detectives arrested two suspects in connection with a fatal shooting in Suitland on Monday. They are 19-year-old Keimoni Shepard of the 9000 block of Edmonston Road in Greenbelt and 19-year-old Brendan Cooley of the 2300 block of Whitehall Street in Suitland. They’re charged with fatally shooting  30-year-old Marceese Norman of District Heights.

On March 29, 2021, at approximately 7:30 pm, officers responded to the 2300 block of Whitehall Street. The victim was located inside of a car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspects and victim are known to each other and had been involved in an on-going dispute.

The suspects are charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. They are in the custody of the Department of Corrections. A commissioner ordered them held on a no-bond status.

Detectives Make Arrest in Fatal Shooting in Palmer Park

The Homicide Unit arrested and charged a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in Palmer Park on Tuesday. The suspect is 26-year-old William Patrick Wells II of the 800 block of Kayak Avenue in Capitol Heights. He’s charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Devin Solomon of Landover. 


On March 30, 2021, at approximately 10:00 am, patrol officers responded to the 2300 block of Penbrook Circle for the report of a shooting. Officers located Solomon in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. 


Approximately 10 minutes later, two adults with gunshot wounds arrived at an area hospital. An adult female suffered serious but preliminarily non-life-threatening injuries. An adult male, Wells, was treated and released into police custody. The preliminary investigation revealed Wells and Solomon shot each other during a dispute. They are known to each other. Wells is charged with second degree murder and additional charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. No other arrests are expected.

PGPD Searches for Missing Man

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s help in finding a missing man. He is identified as 71-year-old Mark Polnasek.

He was last seen on March 31, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in the 1900 block of Saratoga Drive in Hyattsville. Mr. Polnasek is described as a white male, 6’0” tall and 195 pounds, last seen wearing a light blue denim shirt, blue jeans and black slippers. He has long shoulder length gray hair and gold metal framed glasses. He was last seen driving a 2014 grey Honda CR-V bearing MD tag 6BR4605, similar to the vehicle in the picture above.
