Detectives Investigate Homicide in Riverdale

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a homicide in Riverdale. The victim is 52-year-old Louis Montague of 53rd Place in Riverdale. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random act. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

On December 14, 2015, at about 7:10 pm, patrol officers were called to the 5000 block of 53rd Place for a shooting. When they arrived, they found the victim inside of his home suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives are working to identify a motive and suspect(s) in this case.

Detectives Investigate Homicide in Lanham

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a homicide in Lanham. The victim is 24-year-old Aaron Michael Rowley of the 9900 blockof Good Luck Road in Lanham. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random act. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

On December 14, 2015, at about 9:15 pm, patrol officers were called to the 9900 block of Good Luck Road for a shooting. When they arrived, they found the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives are working to identify a motive and suspect(s) in this case.

PGPD Searching for Driver in Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run in District Heights

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run in District Heights. The victim is 39-year-old Roy Lee Dorsey Jr., of Silver Hill Court in District Heights. The striking vehicle is described as a gray or black full-size passenger van. The van may now have front end damage. Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed this collision or has information in this case.

On December 14, 2015, at about 6:35 pm, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Silver Hill Road for a collision involving a pedestrian. When they arrived, the officers found Dorsey in the roadway suffering from critical injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals Dorsey was attempting to cross Pennsylvania Avenue when he was struck by the van. The driver did not remain at the scene. The victim was not in a crosswalk.

Lead Detective, Victim’s Family to Discuss Accokeek Murder Investigation

Officers to Canvass Community




The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit this evening will update an active murder investigation from this summer in an Accokeek neighborhood. 

On July 12, 2015, at about 1:00 am, patrol officers were called to the 15700 block of Hickory Knoll Road for a shooting. When they arrived, they found 20-year-old Daryl Sylvester King, Jr., of Dorset Drive in Waldorf outside suffering from a gunshot wound. He died a short time later at a hospital. 

Tonight, Detective Ben Brown and Mr. King’s family will be available for interviews as police officers pass out Crime Solvers flyers seeking information in this investigation. The interviews and canvass are scheduled to begin at 5 pm in the 15700 block of Hickory Knoll Road in Accokeek.

PGPD to Distribute Toys for Tots This Weekend

The gym at Prince George’s County Police headquarters is packed with toys. The PGPD is once again proudly partnering with the United States Marine Corps Reserves to host the Toys for Tots program in Prince George’s County. Each Christmas season, the program collects new, unwrapped toys and distributes them to families in need.  This year, our community’s generosity will help us distribute more than an estimated 50,000 toys to more than 25,000 county children.

Donations are still being accepted for this year’s toy drive and can be dropped off at police headquarters. The thousands of toys already collected will be distributed this Saturday. Unfortunately, the deadline to sign up to receive toys this year has passed. If you are interested in signing up for next year, please visit www.toysfortots.org.

Bank Robbery Investigation

We’re starting Wanted Wednesday this week with details of a bank robbery on Saturday. The man in these pictures is wanted for robbing a branch in the 16000 block of Crain Highway on December 12th around 9:15 am. He fled the area on a white and red motorcycle. Pharmacy Robbery

Our Robbery Unit is also actively searching for the two suspects in this photo. They’re wanted for robbing a pharmacy in Clinton. The investigation reveals the men targeted the store in the 8800 block of Branch Avenue on December 10th around 11:35 pm. Please call 301-772-4905 with any information on this case. Convenience Store Theft

Detectives want to find and arrest these two suspects. The investigation reveals the men stole from a convenience store in the 4000 block of Powder Mill Road in Beltsville on December 4th. Robbery Investigation

Our Robbery Unit is also investigating an armed robbery of a convenience store in Accokeek. On December 14th, at about 4:45 pm, the suspect robbed the store in the 15700 block of Livingston Road. Prince George’s County Police Officer Saves Crash Victim’s Life

PGFD Paramedics, Mystery Good Samaritan Assist


When the call went out over the radio for a multiple-car collision with CPR in progress, Patrol Officer Dale Sollars, a former firefighter/EMT, knew exactly what to do. Sollars drove priority to the crash scene on Rt. 210 at Palmer Road in Fort Washington and sprang into action alongside a woman in scrubs who was trying to save a man’s life. Tomorrow, because of their actions and the assistance of two Prince George’s County Fire Department paramedics, the 73-year-old McLean man will soon be released from the hospital and celebrate Christmas at home with his family.

On Thursday morning at 11 at PGPD Headquarters, Police Officer Sollars, PGFD Firefighter/Medic Latonya Hackley and the wife and daughter of Jorge Mondino, who was seriously injured in the crash and who received CPR, will be available to discuss that harrowing experience. The woman who identified herself only as a physician and helped Officer Sollars perform CPR remains a mystery, since during the chaos, no one got her name or contact information. The family would like to thank her as well and hopes the story will reach her either via social media or through the traditional media who cover the story.

Detectives Make Quick Arrest in Landover Homicide

James Norris III
The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit made a quick arrest in Sunday’s homicide in Landover. The suspect is 28-year-old James Norris III of Mount Olivet Road in Northeast Washington. He’s charged with fatally shooting 28-year-old Turrell Blake of Catesby Terrace in Landover.

On December 20, 2015, at about 5:30 pm, patrol officers were called to the 1000 block of Brightseat Road for a shooting. When they arrived, they found the victim outside of a building suffering from gunshot wounds. He died a short time later at a hospital.

Detectives quickly established Norris as the suspect. He and the victim were acquaintances. The preliminary investigation reveals he and Blake had an argument that escalated into the shooting. Norris was arrested a short time after the incident. He’s charged with first degree murder and related charges. He’s in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no bond status.

Armed Robbery Investigation


We’re starting Wanted Wednesday this week with photos taken at an ATM of a suspect wanted for an armed robbery in Temple Hills. On December 21st, the suspect and two accomplices robbed two victims of money and other items on Allentown Road in Temple Hills. The victims were not hurt. Bank Robbery Suspect

 

This next suspect robbed a bank this week. On Monday, the man in these photos walked into the Capital One bank in the 10000 block of Baltimore Avenue in Beltsville around 11:25 am. He approached a teller and demanded cash. Once he had money, he ran from the bank heading southbound on Baltimore Avenue. A cash reward is being offered for info that helps close this case. Tipsters won’t have to give their name by calling 1-866-411-TIPS.

 
Suspects Target Second Pharmacy

December 21st

We first told you about these armed robbery suspects last Wanted Wednesday. For the second time in two weeks, they’ve targeted a drugstore in the county, this time in the 5000 block of Martin Luther King Jr Highway in Seat Pleasant. On December 21st, at about 11:25 am, these two men approached the store’s pharmacy. One of them jumped the counter and grabbed several medications. They then ran from the store.

PGPD Searches For Missing Teen

The Prince George’s County Police Department is asking for our community’s help to find a missing teenage girl. She’s 14-year-old Karen Sandoval.

Karen was last seen on December 20th at around 5:00 am in the 9700 block of 51stAvenue in College Park.

Karen is 5’6”, 160 lbs, with brown eyes and black hair. She was last seen wearing a gray shirt, black pants.

PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision Involving ATV

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision involving an ATV in Capitol Heights. The victim is 29-year-old Jerome Odom of Beechnut Road in Capitol Heights. 

On December 27, 2015, at about 5:45 pm, patrol officers were called to the 7400 block of Walker Mill Road for the report of a collision involving an ATV and SUV. Odom and a teenage passenger had been on the ATV. Odom was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The teenage passenger of the ATV suffered serious injuries. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.

The preliminary investigation reveals the ATV was heading eastbound on Walker Mill Road. An SUV heading westbound on Walker Mill Road struck the ATV as the SUV attempted to make a left turn onto Waterford Drive. 

Odom and the passenger were not wearing safety helmets.

ATVS are illegal to drive on county-maintained roadways. If stopped for driving an ATV, the driver faces a fine of up to $290. The ATV can be impounded and the driver faces the possibility of arrest for operating an uninsured vehicle.

PGPD Makes Quick Arrest in Seabrook Homicide

The Prince George’s County Police Department made a quick arrest in Monday’s homicide in Seabrook. The suspect is 31-year-old Alex James Jones of the 6000 block of Carter Avenue in Lanham. The victim is 24-year-old Douglas Napoleon Reyes of 100th Avenue in Seabrook.

On December 28, 2015, at about 3:45 pm, patrol officers were called to a school in the 6700 block of 97th Avenue for a stabbing. When they arrived, they found Reyes outside near the basketball court suffering from stab wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

An officer responding to the scene spotted Jones a short distance away and took him into custody. The preliminary investigation reveals the victim and suspect had gone separately to the basketball court. The victim was sitting on a bench near the court when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect confronted the victim before stabbing him several times in what appears to be an unprovoked attack. The suspect then ran from the area. The victim and suspect did not know each other.

Jones is charged with first and second degree murder. He’s in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no bond status.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a homicide in Suitland. The victim is 51-year-old Nathaniel Powell Jr. of Brooks Drive. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

On December 29, 2015, at about 5:50 am, patrol officers were called to the 2300 block of Brooks Drive for a shooting. When they arrived, they found the victim in a parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died on December 30, 2015.

Detectives are working to identify a motive and suspect(s) in this case.

PGPD Investigates Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Capitol Heights

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Capitol Heights. The victim is 55-year-old Rickey Clayton of Rollins Avenue in Capitol Heights.

On December 18, 2015, at about 9:00 am, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Central Avenue at Topeka Avenue for a collision involving a pedestrian. When they arrived, the officers found Clayton suffering from critical injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he died on December 21, 2015.

The preliminary investigation reveals the striking SUV was heading westbound on Central Avenue approaching Topeka Avenue, when for reasons which remain under investigation, it crossed the double yellow center line and struck Clayton. Investigators are working to determine where Clayton was when he was struck.

Detectives to Canvass Suitland Neighborhood in Homicide Investigation

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit will canvass a Suitland neighborhood this afternoon where a man was shot on Tuesday.

On December 29, 2015, at about 5:50 am, patrol officers were called to the 2300 block of Brooks Drive for a shooting. When they arrived, they found the victim, 51-year-old Nathaniel Powell Jr., in a parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He died of his injuries the next day.

Detectives will pass out Crime Solvers flyers seeking information in this investigation. The canvass is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm in the 2300 block of Brooks Drive. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered in this case.

Chief Magaw’s Message to the Citizens of Prince George’s County:

As many of you may already know, today is my last day as the Chief of Police. It’s a bittersweet day. I’ve worn the badge of the PGPD for 32 years now and have been blessed to be the Chief for the last five years. It’s been the honor of my lifetime to serve as Chief. From the day I was sworn in, I’ve done my very best to lead this department in our goal to serve and protect this community. And from the very beginning, the wonderful citizens of this county welcomed me in this role. For that, I’m eternally grateful. This department is full of dedicated officers and civilian employees who truly care about serving others. We are, first and foremost, guardians of the community. Crime in the county is at historic lows which I attribute to both this department and our entire community. Together, we’re making a positive difference in the county.
 
Interim Chief Hank Stawinski takes over tomorrow. He is a good man and a strong leader. I know he will serve this community well. While it’s difficult to the leave the men and women of the PGPD, I look forward to continuing to serve this county in my new role as County Executive Baker’s Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Public Safety. Detectives Investigate Homicide Along Hyattsville Trail

Prince George's County Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are working to identify and arrest the suspect(s) who killed a woman in Hyattsville. Her body was discovered Friday along the Northwest Branch Trail. The victim is 20-year-old Catherine Alvarado of Van Buren Street in Hyattsville. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random act. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

On January 1, 2016, at about 7:20 am, patrol officers with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police Department and the Prince George's County Police Department were called to the trail in the 6100 block of Ager Road for a welfare check. When they arrived, they found the victim suffering from trauma to the upper body. She was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Detectives are working to identify the suspect(s) and determine the motive.

Detectives Arrest Two Suspects in Fort Washington Homicide

The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested two suspects in connection with Sunday’s homicide in Fort Washington. The victim is 33-year-old Larry Ellis Jr. of Osgood Court in Clinton. The suspects are 29-year-old Tyron Taylor of the 4500 block of Payne Drive in Fort Washington and 25-year-old James Baskins of the 200 block of Morgan Street in Northwest Washington.

On January 3, 2016, at about 4:40 am, patrol officers were called to the 3900 block of Kilbourne Drive for a welfare check. When they arrived, they found Ellis outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives quickly established Taylor and Baskins as suspects. They were arrested Sunday evening in Fort Washington. The preliminary investigation reveals the motive was robbery. The suspects and victim were acquaintances. Taylor and Baskins are both charged with first and second degree murder and related charges.

Crime Solvers Program More than Doubles Reward Amount for Tipsters

For the first time in its more than 35-year history, the Prince George’s County Crime Solvers organization raised its maximum reward payout to $2,500. Previously, it was $1,000. 
The new higher reward amount will be offered for tips on several crimes including robberies, burglaries and thefts. The reward amount for an unsolved homicide, rape and specific violent crime cases remains up to $25,000.
“In many cases, detectives need information from a tipster to help make an arrest. This increased incentive to provide that vital information will have a positive impact for victims and the community,” said Major Robert Brewer, Criminal Investigation Division Commander.  
Prince George’s County Crime Solvers is a non-profit organization that relies on private donations and fundraising to complete its vital mission. Crime Solvers provides cash rewards to anonymous tipsters who provide critical information on crimes committed in our community.

Brazen Attempted Burglary Suspect


This brazen suspect in these surveillance pictures is wanted for climbing onto a second floor balcony and trying to break into a home in the middle of the afternoon. He was stopped by a locked sliding glass door. He targeted a home on Prince Place in Largo back on Christmas day. Investigators are working to identify this man and are looking into whether he’s connected to any other similar cases. Please call 301-390-2160 with any information on this suspect. Game Store Robbery


These two suspects robbed a game store in the 14000 block of Baltimore Avenue in Laurel on January 2nd. One of the suspects had a gun. They demanded cash and items from employees. They then ran from the store. The tipster who helps us find and arrest these two suspects is eligible for a reward of up to $2,500—that’s the new, higher Crime Solvers reward that took effect in 2016. Attempted Murder Suspect


Our detectives are working to find and arrest Anthony Joseph Keys of the 200 block of 50th Street in Northeast Washington. The investigation reveals he stabbed a family member after an argument at a home on Southview Drive in Oxon Hill. This happened at about 3:00 am on January 1st. Attempted Robbery Investigation 




Detectives would like to talk with anyone with information on a robbery at a discount store on January 4th in Mount Rainier. The suspect in these photos pulled out a gun and demanded cash.  Search for Homicide Suspect



Our Homicide Unit continues to actively search for a suspect wanted in connection with a homicide last September. He’s 26-year-old Walker Jamal Davis of the 5800 block of Terence Drive in Clinton. Detectives made one arrest in this case shortly after the fatal shooting. On September 17, 2015, at about 10:00 pm, patrol officers responded to the 4700 block of 23rd Parkway for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found 26-year-old Karria Mary Suggs of 51st Street in Bladensburg suffering from gunshot wounds inside of an apartment. The preliminary investigation reveals the shooting stemmed from a robbery attempt.
